Blulilli Projects

Blulilli Projects is the creative house founded by Anthea Lewis, it combines her background as a movement artist with producing, curating and events management. Her work is invested in developing artistic practices, augmenting underrepresented voices and cross art form collaborations.

Anthea has worked in the field of live performance for over 20 years and is now carving out her own pathway under the Blulilli Projects to create individually tailored artistic curations.

Curator

Frustrated with the lack of women choreographing through their own lens for women’s bodies, Anthea decided to organise a female choreographic platform called UnTamed. It created space for women at different stages of developing their choreographic skills to explore their voices and develop ideas in a shared and supportive environment.

This became a recurring theme where specific needs were not being met, certain conversations not being facilitated effectively if at all, and ongoing questions of who was in the room, who wasn’t and why were left unanswered. This led Anthea to continue bringing people together to address issues within the sector as well as seeking resolutions or finding alternative pathway.

Anthea endeavours to illuminate the cracks rather than smooth over the surface and enable differences to be explored, co exist and celebrated; embracing nuance and enabling spaces to be inhabited in a safe and thoughtful manner. An advocate for centring those existing on the periphery, either through expanding their own spaces or being brought into a shared dialogue to reimagine the current structures and possibilities for change. Anthea continually re-examines how we can generate upliftment, well-being, community, dialogue, exchange and reflection.

Producer

Anthea gained her MA in Creative Producing at the Birbeck University of London and has since worked as a freelance Project Manager/ Producer for a variety of creative organisations including Dance Umbrella, SystemsLAB, BOM, FACT, Bernie Grant Arts Centre and Tate Modern as well as collaborating with independent artists to support the delivery of their work

Since forming Blulilli Projects she has set up several of her own initiatives working with filmmakers Baff Akoto, Jaha Browne and Drew Cox, Architect Jerome Beresford, Composer Jose Manuel Cubides Gutierrez and other collaborators, utilising her organisational and management skills to expand the artistic vision. Anthea has a focus on interdisciplinary forms, investigating the process of making work and artist development; producing events that offer insight and exploration to the artistic community as well as a wider audience.

Director & Choreographer

Coming from a contemporary dance background Anthea worked as a freelance performer for 20 years, having the longest collaboration with SOIT Belgian Dance Theatre Company as a performer, assistant choreographer, facilitator and advisor. She has choreographed several of her own productions and been engaged as a movement consultant for theatre and film productions during research and development, creation, rehearsal and performance phases.

Anthea is a qualified Body Control Pilates instructor and utilises this skill combined with her choreographic and movement practice working with graduate/ post-graduate students at Mountview, East 15 Acting School, LAMDA and Central School of Speech and Drama as a dance teacher. Offering composition tools, body awareness and movement analysis.

Utilising a network of highly skilled creatives with a wide range of resources,
Blulilli Projects strives to question which stories get told and who gets to hear them. It challenges concepts, perceptions and the (in)visible barriers around what is and what can be.

Anthea is a highly intuitive and responsive artist, maker, producer and curator. She creates work from the world around her with subtlety, poise and precision. A unique voice, asking you to come closer, lean in, listen and be in communication with the work and yourself.
